Baseball Hitting Drill: Top Hand Progression

This drill is performed as a soft toss drill. The purpose of the drill is to teach top hand progression, or the use of the top hand to power the ball through the hitting zone.

Player should choke up on the bat, holding only with his or her top hand. Soft toss about 5 balls and have them swing only with their top hand, emphasizing keeping the barrel of the bat out in front.

After 5 swings with the top hand, have the hitter swing 5 times with both hands. Repeat top hand/both hands for 3-5 sets of 5 swings each.
